Walking groups in Lithuania
No published walking groups on the TempoLife directory, and the sunset table for Vilnius that decides what time an evening group can meet.
Groups
No group in Lithuania has been listed and reviewed yet. What follows is the part of this page that is true either way — the evening-light table that decides a meeting time at this latitude, and the practical steps for starting the first group here.
When does an evening walk stop being a daylight walk?
This is the question that actually sets a walking group's meeting time, and at 54.69°N the answer changes by more than four hours across the year. The table is local sunset on the 15th of each month at Vilnius, computed on this page from the standard solar-position algorithm, in Europe/Vilnius clock time — the time on the sign at the meeting point.
| Month (15th) | Sunset | 18:00 start | 19:00 start |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | 16:23 | dark | dark |
| February | 17:25 | dark | dark |
| March | 18:22 | daylight | dark |
| April | 20:21 | daylight | daylight |
| May | 21:18 | daylight | daylight |
| June | 21:57 | daylight | daylight |
| July | 21:47 | daylight | daylight |
| August | 20:52 | daylight | daylight |
| September | 19:36 | daylight | daylight |
| October | 18:21 | daylight | dark |
| November | 16:17 | dark | dark |
| December | 15:52 | dark | dark |
What to do about it
An 18:00 weekday group is a summer group. On these numbers it walks in daylight for 8 months of the year and in the dark for 4. That is not a reason to stop in October; it is a reason to decide in September what the dark version looks like, while everyone is still enthusiastic.
The dark version has three shapes. Move the walk to a lit route — a promenade, a sports-ground perimeter, a lit park path — and accept that it is less pretty. Or move it to a weekend morning, which keeps the scenery and loses the weekday habit. Or keep the time and the route and add light: a head torch each, reflective bands, and a rule that the group stays together. Groups that pick one of these in advance survive; groups that improvise in November usually stop.
Twilight buys you more than the table shows. Sunset is not darkness. At this latitude civil twilight adds roughly half an hour of genuinely usable light after sunset in the shoulder months, and rather more around midsummer. A walk that starts fifteen minutes after sunset in September is still a daylight walk in every way that matters; the same walk in December is not.
Winter is when a group earns its keep. Anyone will walk alone in June. The reason to have five other people expecting you at a gate is that it is the fifteenth of January, it is dark, and you would otherwise stay in.

The seven-step guide on the main page covers the whole job: one fixed time, a meeting point a stranger can find, an honest pace, a route you have walked in the wet, no permission needed to join, a plan for the dark months, and a second person with a key. Then list it here and someone will find it.
