How this database is built
A nightly job reads the nutrition page each chain publishes for itself. It checks that chain's robots.txt first and does not fetch anything the file disallows. It sends a conditional request, so a menu that has not changed costs the chain a single 304 response and nothing more.
Every value stored here keeps the exact URL it was read from and the moment it was read, and both appear on the item page. Nothing is copied from an aggregator, nothing is estimated, and no value is published without that trail.
Restaurant portions vary between countries, franchises and even between two of the same sandwich. Treat these as the chain's stated averages, which is exactly what they are.
Nutrition figures are published by each restaurant for its own products. TempoLife reproduces them with attribution and links back to the source. Where a chain has not published figures, no page is created for it.
Frequently asked questions
Where do these numbers come from?
From the nutrition page each chain publishes itself. The item page names the exact URL and the date it was read. If a chain has no figures here, the job fetched its page and found nothing machine-readable — it does not copy from aggregators or invent values.
How often do they update?
The job runs nightly and uses conditional requests, so a chain that has not changed its page is not re-read. A failed parse never deletes previous figures.
Why is my favourite chain missing?
Either it does not publish nutrition on its own site, its robots.txt asks automated readers to stay away, or the published page only reveals numbers in a browser calculator the job cannot read. All three are respected.
Are the portions accurate for my country?
Recipes and portion sizes differ by market. Each chain page states the market its figures came from.
Log the meal, not just read about it
TempoLife estimates a plate from a photo and keeps the running total for the day, so a restaurant meal does not have to be a gap in your diary.
