Liver

The body's chemical plant — processing food, alcohol and medicines.

The liver handles alcohol, and alcohol is the liver factor you can most directly track and control. Working in grams of ethanol rather than "drinks" makes the load visible, and spacing or reducing intake is the single clearest lever for liver health in people who drink. Body weight is the other big one: fat around the liver is common and improves with weight loss and activity.

Liver function is read from blood tests — ALT among them — not from a wearable. What tracking offers is the input side: how much alcohol, what the weight trend is doing, how active you are. Those are exactly the levers that move the most common liver problem.

Fatty liver is often silent, causing no symptoms until it is advanced, which is why the input side matters so much: by the time you would notice, the useful window for easy change has often passed. The liver also processes most medicines and supplements, so being cautious about what you ask it to handle — including large doses of things sold as harmless — is part of looking after it.

The everyday levers

What tracking can and cannot tell you

Liver health is measured by blood tests, not trackers. What you can track — alcohol, weight, activity — happens to be exactly what moves the most common liver problem.

Frequently asked questions

What can I track for liver?

The metrics that relate to it are alcohol intake (grams of ethanol), body weight trend, liver markers (alt), activity. What tracking sees is the behaviour around the system, not the organ itself.

What are the everyday levers for liver?

Reducing alcohol — the clearest lever for the liver. Losing excess weight and staying active. Being cautious with medicines and supplements the liver must process.

Can tracking diagnose a problem here?

Liver health is measured by blood tests, not trackers. What you can track — alcohol, weight, activity — happens to be exactly what moves the most common liver problem.

Other systems

Heart and circulation

The heart, the blood vessels and the pressure and rhythm that move blood around the body.

Lungs and breathing

The lungs and airways that move oxygen into the blood and carbon dioxide out.

Digestion

The stomach, gut and everything that turns food into what the body uses.

Muscles

The skeletal muscles that move you and that you can build and keep with training and protein.

Bones and joints

The skeleton and the joints — kept strong by load, and by the nutrients that build bone.

Brain and sleep

The brain, mood and the sleep that maintains both.
