BMR

Basal Metabolic Rate — the calories your body burns at complete rest.

BMR is what your body would burn if you did absolutely nothing for 24 hours — no walking, no digesting food, just staying alive: breathing, circulating blood, keeping organs running and body temperature stable.

It is the floor beneath TDEE, not the whole picture. Age, sex, muscle mass and genetics all shift it — more muscle raises it, since muscle costs more energy to maintain than fat.

BMR alone is not a target to eat to; it is the starting point TDEE is built from, by adding an activity multiplier.
